Module 9 – Enhancing Minor Triads

There are some cool things that we can do to enhance those minor triads.

Lesson 77: Adding b7

Adding a note to the minor triad usually brings in more complexity (or color) to the structure. The b7 is a wise choice as it appears as the next note in the overtone series naturally.

Lesson 78: Minor 7th vs. Major

Let's find out how the minor 7th compare to the major one. Pay attention to the difference in sound as it gives you a different emotional response.

Lesson 79: Minor Blues - Sus4

Next, we can substitute the third in the vertical structure via scale tone 4. This brings us back to a neutral sound, which potentially could resolve to a major chord.

Lesson 80: Minor Blues - Sus2

And here's even another variation of the substitution of scale tone 3. Instead of playing a sus4-structure, we can go to a sus2 as well. That's a great way to add color and variation to your playing. You may even go back and forth between a sus4 and sus2 before you resolve it back to your scale tone 3 (or -3).

Lesson 81: Minor Blues - Sus4 & Sus2

Here's the demonstration of combining the sus2 with the sus4. See how it flavors the sound?
