If you can count to 6, I can teach you Negative Harmony!

Let's convert a chord progression into Negative Harmony together. It's actually quite easy, and we'll simply count chromatic steps between the tones.

Translating any chord progression (based on triads) into Negative Harmony is straightforward and easy. We tackle one thing after another, and you'll see that it's really all about counting chromatic steps from one note to another.

We'll determine negative root tones and their corresponding triads and apply voice-leading to the progression. Now that you know how to use those concepts, it's about time to enhance your compositions and see what this does to the overall sound and feel.

And by the way, to my ears, it sounds best when you apply this technique to just a few selected bars in your composition.

Best always,
Frank
