Composing on Autopilot
Musical portals are a fantastic way to jump from one tonal center to another, and this technique leads to really great results so that it almost feels like you compose on autopilot.
Today, we look at a fantastic Interval Theory trick, and that's the portal "4+4". You can use this portal to transition fluently into many other triads, and you know that I'm a huge fan of triads, right? :D
All the triads are connected chromatically; therefore, the sound constantly changes and keeps the music fresh because we temporarily leave our tonal center and the associated scale.
Once you understand how to move around those musical building blocks, you can turn on your "composition autopilot" and simply stay inspired!
I literally used this trick more than a dozen times in paid gigs, and it always worked!
Have a great day and best always,
Frank
